Camp Courage Woodland Summer Camp Programs:

  • Clinical programs for speech/hearing/language impaired youth:  Camp Courage operates two sessions staffed by speech clinicians who provide daily individual clinical services to children ages 7-13 who are currently on the active case load of a school clinician and who are not physically disabled or mentally disabled. Clinical plans are developed based on a camper's school Individual Education Plan and a professional report is written on each camper.

  •
  • Experience-based programs for language disordered youth: Camp Courage operates one session providing group-based, experiential learning services under the guidance of speech clinicians. In many cases, clinicians representing a campers home school district are part of the staff.  The session serves children who have a language disorder and are mildly mentally disabled.

  •
  • Leadership development for teenagers with leadership potential:  Courage camps offer "Junior Leader" positions to teenage campers who have "people work" and leadership potential. Up to 20 teens could be accepted for this early or first job experience.

  •
  • Literacy Camp:   This unique session is for struggling readers (all disabilities), ages 12-18, who would like a positive literacy experience. Educators under the direction of Dr. David Koppenhaver, a national literacy expert, will be working with campers to determine literacy needs and intervention strategies to begin to address those needs. Informal descriptive reports of the assessments and interventions will be provided to families and campers to take back to their home schools. Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in the full range of fun camp activities. Because video of this session will be used for teaching purposes, a signed media release is a condition for acceptance for this session. Campers must be ambulatory and independent with self-care. For specific information about this session, contact Barb Wollak at bawollak@ties2.net

  •
  • Asthma Camp for children with asthma:  Camp Courage offers a three day session for children with asthma. Camp provides staff for program activities, and asthma specialists are available to handle medical concerns and provide education about asthma. For more information, please call 1 (888) 520-0504.

  •
  • Winther Island Outdoor Leadership Camp:  For Adolescent or teenage campers looking for a more challenging camping experience, there is an Outdoor Leadership Session held on Winther Island near Paynesville, Minnesota. A small group of campers and counselors, usually accompanied by a speech clinician, will tent camp on the island while doing work projects and recreational activities. The emphasis of this program will be on learning to work as a team and taking responsibility for contributing to the group, along with getting an introduction to the world of work and service to others. Campers will also enjoy the activities and the modern, diverse facilities that Camp Courage has to offer.

These Woodland campus programs are open to any young person who fits the eligibility requirements. All campers pay a $25 non refundable registration fee on or before the first day of the session and are encouraged to pay what they can toward the cost of camp. HOWEVER, CAMP OPERATES ON A SLIDING SCALE, AND NO ONE IS TURNED DOWN BECAUSE OF INABILITY TO PAY ANY OR ALL COSTS. Qualified applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like more information, please feel free to write or call.
